Thomas Edison 1847-1931. February 11. 1879. More than 1,000 inventions. Every day you use things, everywhere, that he had a hand in its being. Turn on electricity--a phone, radio, recordings, movies, typewriters, tape, UPA package, travel comforts even your lunch paper. As early as 1889 he showed a motion picture. The phonograph 1877 that led to all modern recordings of voice, music, etc. Dynamo. Movies. Electric light, phonograph. movies, wax and gum paper, megaphone, electric socket and plug, safety fuses, miners lamp, zig-zag for ships-submarine and plane detectors, storage batteries, nitrogen from air, microphone, telephone, transmitter, dynamo-electric power for railroads, multiple telegraph transmission over one wire, etc., etc. Improved battery cells. At least 300 inventions to meet railroad needs. Electric locomotive. At 12 a candy-butcher on trains, he next did work on a newspaper. 1882 first commercial electric generating plant.
