A skyscraper representing New York City celebrates upon hearing a (false) report that the Germans have surrendered. Public looks around in all directions, confused about who to trust. Radio stations all over the world broadcast unofficial reports about the state of the war.

We told you that wed tell you--It will be Tuesday (VEDay) perhaps. Might be Tuesday 9 a.m. Evansville war time or--. ? I wanted to be historical. Some were hysterical. There were no extras. May 7. Maybe youll still be. Early unofficial flashes Monday from Europe on details of German unconditional surrender--2:41 a.m. French time May 7, 1945. From New York. Whoopee. New York City went wild on first report--but few other places did. German radio. Monday morning long radio reports not official. From France we hear... From London we hear... From Frisco... All Radio Stations.
