First post office name was Delectable Hill. Then Algiers City. On the Buffalo Trace, which became Old Post Road from Vincennes to Louisville. Wm Henry Harrison, Gen. Pile, the Lincolns were among those traveling it. It is the only post office of that name, a similar named place in Louisianna has no post office. The first greenhouse in Indiana was built there by Harbard DeBrulier in 1820 whose home name, Delectable Hill was taken for first name for the village. DeBrulier later moved to Evansville and built First Greenhouse for that town. The well known diplomat, Hon. John W. Foster was born in Algiers. He lived in Evansville, became minister to Mexico, Russia etc. - Clay Townsend - Algiers. Buck Jones - movie star, of western stories, was born in Vincennes, Ind., 1889 -. His mother is buried near Wheatcroft, Webster County, KY. one the Treadwater Trail.
