Karl Kae Knecht Cartoon

Description: A cartoon about the effects of noise. Hitler and Hirohito talk about how noise helps them; it is part of a psychological offensive. War workers sleep is disturbed. Noise causes people to make more mistakes and work less efficiently. Noisy parties at night, excessive noise at home, and horn tooting. Noise increases brain pressure and can cause deafness.
Hitler, Adolf, 1889-1945; Hirohito, Emperor of Japan, 1901-1989

Big noise helped me. Me see! Me too scare with noise. Not the noise of battle alone! But Psychological offensive. To sap and undermine nerves by rumor, air raid alarm, fear, ruthlessness, screaming bombs, etc. War workers rest and sleep must not be disturbed. A health hazard. Drives folk crazy. Causing deafness. A menace to safety. More energy expended, more mistakes made, hampered efficiency, in noisy environment. Stop needless noise. Help America keep calm. Slam a doors. Oo-wee-ee. Loud and louder. Home noises. Worse effect than fright. By tests innocent noises will raise brain pressure to four times normal. Noise. Noisy night parties. Goodnight. Goodnight. Come on. Horn tooting. One of the worst of all.
