Civilian clerks work in shops where soldiers can buy a variety of goods. Quartermaster is in charge of all supplies for the camp, including food, fuel, and equipment. Soldiers can buy gum, pins, candy, smokes, souvenirs, drinks, sandwiches, newspapers, books, magazines, toilet articles, athletic shoes, etc. Even luggage etc.,--the barber shops cleaning, laundry etc., civilian operated, are in PX buildings.
