Description: The file contains three documents related to the suit the United States brought against Leonard Snyder for his failure to maintain a highway from Vincennes to Moses Deckers ferry. One document is a subpoena, one a summons, and an indictment of Snyder. An Indictment was issued for Leonard R. Snyder by the jury during the October Term 1815. It stated that Leonard R. Snyder was appointed supervisor of the highway beginning at Frederick Mehls in Vincennes and leading to Moses Deckers ferry on the White River. Snyder had permitted the highway to become out of repair and ruinous by Default. The indictment was signed by W. Prince, Prosecuting Attorney. A Subpoena was issued for Solomon Teverbaugh and Philip Wease for the first Monday of March to give evidence on behalf of the United States against Leonard R. Snyder on an indictment for neglect of duty. The Subpoena was witnessed and signed by Robert Buntin, Clerk the 12th day of February 1816. It was executed by James Jordan, DSKC. Attached fees: Service on 2 $.75; 15 miles $.90; Return $.09; Total $1.74. A Summons was issued for Leonard R. Snyder to appear in Circuit Court the first Monday of March next to answer to an indictment for neglect of duty on the 14th day of February. It was witnessed and signed by Robert Buntin, Clerk on the 14th day of February 1816. Benjamin Beckes, Sheriff KC executed the summons. Attached fees: Service $.37 1/2; 11 miles $.66; Return $.09; Total $1.12 1/2. According to the Minute Book of the Knox County Court of Common Pleas/ Circuit Court 1811-1817 page 226: March Term, the Prosecuting Attorney would no longer prosecute.
