Description: The file contains three documents related to John Bte. Momings [Mominee) petition to be entitled to an act for the relief of persons imprisoned for debt. The first document was the petition to the judges of the court of Commons Pleas asking that Jean Bte. Morming, who had been jailed due to debt, and who had a large helpless family of young children who are dependent upon him for their support, asked for the benefit of the Insolvency Act. Signed by the mark of Jean Bte. Morming 15 April 1813. The second document was a list of the creditors of John Bte. Moming and an inventory of his effects. The creditors included: Lauren Bazadon $17.00; John Bte. Bonhome $5.00; Hypolete Novelle alias Londo $3.00; Jones and Dubois $15.00; Hyacinthe Lasselle $12.00; Antoine Marchal; Eitienne Bizayon $80.00; Eustash Sauilinrer; Guillaume Laviellett $25.00; Jean Bte. Laplant $15.00; Jean Bte. Villeneaure; Easther Bazadone $4.00; Geo Wallace; Wilson Lagou [Lago] $2.00; Jacob Kuykendall; Total $178.0 The final document was a list of names that had been questioned by the prisoner. The list included the following: M. Laplant, Doctor Kuykendall, Mm. Bazadone, George Wallace, John B. Villenieaure, Eustash Sevena, Laurancener Bazadone, Jones and Dubois, Pollett Novalle, Wilson Lago, Antoine Marshall, H. Lasselle, Aden Bazayon. According to the Knox County Court of Common Pleas Minute Book 1811-1817, pages 83 and 86; during the April Term 1813,presented the petition of John Bte. Mominee, an insolvent debtor confined in jail, praying benefit of the Insolvent Law. It was ordered that he be brought up on the 3rd Monday in May next, to hear what may be offered for and against his enlargement. During the May Term, Moming was brought to court and asked to take the benefit of the law entitled, an act for the relief of persons imprisoned for debt. He proved the regular services of notice on his creditors and duly advertised and published at Vincennes by the act and no objections were made to his discharge. He took the oath required and delivered in schedule of his estate. Where upon a motion by Wm. Prince, John Bte Moming was discharged of his imprisonment.
