This file contains presentments from the Knox County Grand Jury against Abraham F. Snapp, Peter Jones, and Thomas Emerson as overseers of various roads that were not kept in proper repair. The first was for Snapp and Jones because or the condition of the road leading from Vincennes to Busseron and neglecting to keep a sufficient bridge over the southeast fork of Mill Creek. The next was against Snap and Emerson for the road leading from Snapps Mill to Marie Creek being obstructed by fallen timbers and for want of a sufficient bridge across Smalls Creek. Both of these were signed by David Robb, foreman of the Grand Jury. The third presentment notes that the overseers (unnamed) of the road from from Vincennes to White River prairie does not keep the bridge across the river in proper repair for horses and wagons. It was signed by David Robb, foreman. The last presentment was for the (unnamed) overseers of the road leading from Gervis Hazeltons ferry on the White River to Columbia, which was not in proper repair and being obstructed by fallen timbers. This presentment was signed by David Robb, foreman. The entries on pages 36 and 37, Minute Book of the court of Common Pleas, 1811-1817, are dated December 16, 1811. |
