A memorandum that states that upon the 8 th day of April 1809 Joseph Truckey a free black man of the county aforesaid and Henry Hurst of the same place are ordered to come before William Jones, Justice of the Peace. They acknowledged themselves indebted to the Governor of the Territory in the sum of $50. The debt was to be levied on each of their respective goods and chattels, lands and tenements to the use of the said Governor upon conditions that Joseph Tructier doth personally appear before Judges of the next Court of Common Pleas to be held in July next and where he may make his recognizance to be void else remain in full force and virtue, Signed Joseph Truckey and H. Hurst before Will Jones. The recognizance was later dismissed. |
