Greater, Christian vs. John Woodcock 1809

Description: The file contains two documents related to the suit Christian Greater brought against John Woodcock for a debt of $500.00. In a Affidavit sworn before George Wallace J.P. on January 3, 1809, Christian Greater stated that John Woodcock owed him $500.00. He asked for an attachment against Woodcock. He further stated that Woodcock had absconded from his usual abode and the ordinary process of law could not be served on him. In the second document Christian Greater, Hyacinth Lasselle, and John Hatton put up security of $1000.00 for the suit against Woodcock. It asked for an attachment under the absconding debtors act. The suit to be held the 3rd Monday of March 1809. All three men signed the bond document. The magistrate fees of Geo Wallace were $0.63. According to the Minute Book of the Knox County Court of Common Pleas 1807-1810 p. 182; the Plaintiff appeared and dismissed the case at his own cost.
