State of Indiana vs Elizabeth Arney

Description: A petition to summon Elizabeth Arney, widow of Henry Arney to Probate Court to show why her daughter Peggy Arney should not be bound out as an apprentice, per the poor laws. Signed by Daniel G. McClure and J. T. Boyd, Overseers of the Poor for Washington Township. A petition is filed by W. R. McCord, Clerk, in Probate court by J. T. Boyd, Overseer of the Poor, in Washington Township. In the petition he states that Peggy Arney, is the infant daughter of Henry Arney, deceased and Elizabeth Arney. He states that Peggy Arney is 14 years 4 months and 20 days years of age and is a pauper and should be bound out by the Overseers of the Poor of Knox County. A summons is issued for Elizabeth Arney to be brought to court the Second, Monday instant, first day of term to show why Peggy Arney, infant daughter, should not be bound out by Daniel McClure and John T. Boyd, Overseers of the Poor, in Washington township per the 36th Section of the Act or Regulating Pauper Laws. The summons was filed November 5, 1839 by W. R. McCord, Clerk and executed November 7, 1839, the sheriffs fee of $1.10 was noted by Z. Sullivan. The case was filed in Probate Court on November 11, 1839 by W. R. McCord, Clerk.
