Robert Houston vs Richard Taylor

Description: In December 1812, Robert Houston sued Richard Taylor for trespass and damages of $400. A summons is issued to Richard Taylor to appear on November 3, 1813 to answer to a plea of trespass. On December 1, 1812, bail is required for a sum of $217. On December 1, 1812, Robert Houston by his attorney filed a declaration which states that the he filed to the Common Pleas Court on October 28, 1812 that the defendant was indebted to him $216.66 2/3 for wares, merchandise and corn. Plaintiff states defendant promised to pay him the sum when requested. He states a letter of exchange was given to him by Thompson Taylor on October 28, 1812 at Busseron, stating the quarter master would pay him $216 2/3 for corn furnished for the United States Mounted Riflemen from Ky. under the command of General Samuel Hopkins now of Busseron. He states both Thomas Taylor A.Q.M. and Richard Taylor Q.M. were pretending to be the Quarter Master and were not. He stated that when he presented the bill in November 1812, Thomas L. Butler refused payment. $300 of damages are sought. Case is continued to the first Monday of January 1813, continued to February 1813, continued to March 1813, continued to April 1813. Judgement of $216.66 2/3 is awarded to the plaintiff together with his cost and charges by him about his suit.
