South Hill Covered Bridge

Description: Postcard of South Hill Covered Bridge in Vermillion County, Indiana, taken during summer. The photograph was taken in the early 1960s.South Hill Covered Bridge crossed Brouillettes Creek in Sections 23/24, Township 14 North and Range 10 West, about 1 mile northwest of Universal, Vermillion County, Indiana. The bridge was a single span Burr Arch structure with a lenth of 122 feet, or 146 feet including the 12-foot overhang at each end. It was 16 feet wide and 13 feet high. The bridge was built by Joseph J. Daniels in 1879 and received its name due to the curve in the road on the south side. In 1994 the bridge was dissassembled by Mr. Dan Shaw and stored at the Geneva Hills Golf Course, northwest of Clinton. Upon his death, Mr. Shaw left the bridge to Vermillion County for reconstruction in Vermillion County only. The bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1999, and is listed as #14-83-02 in the 1989 World Guide. In 2006, the bridge resides at the Skinner Farm Museum in Perrysville, Indiana.
