Description: This is the Grand Army of the Republic application of Levi G. Benson, dated August 18, 1887. Levi first enlisted in April 1861 as a Private in Company D 11th Regiment of the Indiana Volunteers and was discharged on August 5, 1861. Levi re-enlisted on May 29, 1863 as a Private in Company L 1st Regiment of the Indiana Heavy Artillery and was discharged as 1st Lieutenant on January 10, 1866. Levis application was recommended by John A. Anderson. Examining Committee members were J. H. Henderson, M. C. Rankin, and Joseph Reagin. Applicant Elected and Mustered on August 18, 1887. No. on Des. Book: 501. G. W. M., acting Adjutant. Post Commander information omitted.
