Libertas, Lady Liberty letter envelopes, 1861

Description: A series of envelopes printed with various images of Libertas, the Roman Goddess of Freedom whom Americans now call Lady Liberty. In each envelope Libertas is shown with a different series of Union symbolism such as a stars and stripes shield, a flag, a sword, justice scales, a trumpet, a Bald Eagle, various firearms and with supernatural powers. In several images she is urging Union soldiers on to victory. 1861.
