Lamp, wick

Description: This artifact is a double spout wick lamp used by coal miners in underground mines. The wick lamp used kerosene and a paraffin like substance called sunshine. The miner would light the wick and the sunshine slowed the burning of the kerosene and prolonged illumination. Miners purchased their own paraffin and made the wicks. These lamps were worn on a miners cap or carried. They were extremely dangerous.
