Lamp, safety

Description: This artifact is a safety lamp used by coal miners in coal mines. The miners safety lamp featured an enclosed flame covered by fine impervious mesh. If the flame dimmed when the lamp was raised to the ceiling, it signaled that there was too much harmful gas and not enough oxygen in the mine.
