This is a color photograph of the Joseph J. Daniels house located on East Ohio Street (US 36) in Rockville, Parke County, Indiana. The two story wooden frame house has a porch across the front, a dormer window and gables above the porch and on the eastern side of the roof. To the west of the house is a small gas station and to the left a line of rooms from when the house operated as a motel. Joseph J. (1826-1916) was born in Marietta, Ohio the son of Stephen and Sophia Warren Daniels. He is know as a builder of covered bridges especially in Parke County. With his second wife, Clarissa Blessing (1831-1916) he moved the family to Rockville in 1861. Among the covered bridges he built in the county are the Jackson, Bridgeton and West Union covered bridges. This item was donated by Charles Davis. |
