The probate record for Jacob Dutton is housed in Box 68 of the Knox County probate records. It can be found at the Knox County Public Library’s McGrady-Brockman House. On April 18, 1863, Richard E. Steen swears an oath and states that Jacob Dutton departed this life on or about April 3, 1863 and believes that Jacob’s estate was valued at $1,000. Letters of administration were granted to Richard E. Steen, Joseph Pickle and Adam Ketron. Other items in the file are: a bill for a gravestone for Jacob Dutton in the amount of $35, a bond for Richard Steen, Joseph Pickle and Adam Ketron, a petition to sell wheat, an inventory of the estate and a sales bill, a report of disbursements, tax receipts, a record of the final accounting from the estate, a receipt stating the heirs of the estate Joseph P. Dutton, John H. Dutton, George W. Dutton and Thomas J. Dutton each received $34. 30 each from the estate, a statement by Magdelena Dutton, widow and mother of the heirs stating she had received her disbursement of $120 and that also her guardians had received their parts. A petition was filed showing that the heirs were due money to them because of a mistake by the administrator. Each heir was owed $3.59 each from the estate. |
