Color photo of the granite statue of Colonel Francis Vigo, along the Wabash River on the grounds of the George Rogers Clarks Memorial, Vincennes, Indiana. He was an officer in the Spanish Army and became a fur trader once in Vincennes, with Indians his best customers. He financially aided Clarks Army in the conquest of Fort Sackville from the British, and then it becoming American in 1776. Vigo died on March 22, 1823, a pauper, here in Vincennes and is buried here. |
