A letter from George Gegner to Lizzie Wayman, dated March 18, 1864. Gegner was stationed at Camp Taylor in Louisville, Kentucky at the time he wrote the letter. George tells Lizzie that his Regiment marched from Kokomo, Indiana to Louisville, Kentucky. He wrote that all the men were exhausted from the march. George also wrote that a man from his Company became ill and died. The man came down with the chills and he had no friends and no one to care for him. George said the 2nd Lieutenant from his Company bought a coffin and paid for all of the expenses for the man. He also writes that his friend John was in charge of the luggage during the march but he got lost and so George and his friend Frank Baker went to look for him. When they found him, they brought him back to camp and showed him where their quarters were. |
