- 6 - me w & s or the name wood alone or e wood11 or m w & co.n hihis potteries were at burslem it is possible that these cups and saucers are the work of one of these men even thought they do not correspond in every detail to what is known of their works there was a great deal of variation in the works of these old potters and there is no adequate record of what designs each used or what 1 i identifying marks were used on them another old piece is a teapot it is white and has a blue morning glory design with a gold line around each leaf flower and vine there are two pieces of bedding which are very old they are spreads one was made by mrs rohms great grandmother huey it is made of a single piece of homespun linen white and embroidered the work on it is called mfc mellic as the first work of its type was done by a woman who lived in mt mellic ireland this spread is very large the other is double and quilted neither of these spreads has been called coverlets by mrs rohm nor those who have had them however in the book geography of american antiques by lurelle van arsdale guild in speaking of coverlets she says sometimes the design was raised by stuffing it with cotton forced through the open mesh of the lining with a sharp ointed instrument resembling a needle after the quilt was removed from the frame as the second spread is stuffed it probably may be referred to as a coverlet this one was made by a great aunt of mrs eohm |
