THE NORMAL ADVANCE395Schoeppel, Hitchcock, and the out-of-townguests: Dr. Asbury, Mr. Pike, Anton Yung,and Hociman Modesitt.During the spring vacation a number ofyoung men of the Normal gave a dance at Indianapolis. The former Llamaradas presentwere: Maybellc Carter, Essie Dinius, NelleLenora Burnam, Ethel Burton, FrancesSnyder, Lutrelle Reeves, and Lora Evans. MissEthel Burton, the leader of last year, paid avisit to the girls a few weeks ago. She hopesto return, if possible, in June.The girls gave a spike party at the Houseon Wednesday, April 28. A picnic luncheonwas served at 6 oclock. The guests were,Minta Hedden, Bertha Bickhart, HazelWoollen, Marguerite Swengel, Minnie Parsons,and Nellie Paul. A great deal of amusementwas afforded by a mock-wedding, which wascarried out in the most ludicrous fashion.Afterwards marshmallows were toasted bymeans of the chafing dish.Friday, April 30, Nellie Paul, Bertha Ebbert, Hazel Woollen, Minta Hedden, MargueriteSwengel, and Bertha Bickhart were initiatedinto the secrets of Llamaradism as far as thefirst degree.Saturday, May 8, Miss Pearl Jolley, who wasunable, on account of sickness, to attend thefirst initiation, received the first degree. MissMartina Erickson, Dean of Women, was invitedto see the ceremony. It is quite beautiful andimpressive, and she seemed very much pleasedwith it. Afterwards the second degree was administered to Louise Pickett, Florence Carithers, Pearl Jolley, Hazel Woollen, Bertha Bickhart, and Nellie Paul. Miss Ethel Hoover, aformer Llamarada wTas present. A delicious hotsupper was served.The girls at the House have issued invitations to the other Llamaradas for a dinnerparty to be given on Sunday, June 12, 1909.A number of big and unique events are onfoot for June and for the reunion at the endof the term. There are at present twenty-threeactive Llamaradas, most of whom are in school.Two have been acting as spring assistants, MissFidlar in grammar, and Miss Asbury inpsychology. Four of the girls, Mae Lamb,Lena Wilson, Anna Paul and Bertha Ebbert,graduate this June from the Normal course,and Orrelle Fidlar graduates from the Collegecourse. The girls feel that they are closing oneof the most successful and happy years thatLlamaradism has known.MU ZETAMiss Mabel Gossman entertained the members of the Mu Zeta Sorority Saturday, May22, at her home, 1606 North Eighth street. Amusical contest was arranged for the entertainment of the guests and the prize was awardedMiss Pearl Ellis. Miss Leila Parr, of Greencastle was a guest of the chapter and gave abeautiful program of vocal selections. MissPearl Ellis also gave several vocal numbers.Refreshments were served after the program.Miniature Mu Zeta pennants were the favors.Those present were Misses Rhyan, Ellis, Engleman, Hodgers, Schmidt, Kester, Hoberg, Kaufman, Corbett, Whitmeyer, Froeb, Connor,Cadden, Shultz, Abbett, Sigler, Howard, DeWeese, Leasure, Pearl Ellis.The Mu Zeta girls enjoyed a picnic to ForestPark June 5. The day was ideal for boatingand an out-door supper. Miss Abbett washostess for a dance in the evening. The girlswho went were Misses Abbett, Gossman,Schmidt, Kester, Hodgers, Corbett, Sigler,Whitmeyer, Shultz, Ellis, Howard, Leasure,Cadden, McClanahan, De Weese. The guestsinvited were Messrs. Admire, Hillis, Busch,Stump, Wente, Schoeppel, Kerr, Mace, Thompson, Wisener, Ritchie, Roberts, McCormack,Patty. Miss Minturn and Mr. Clippingerchaperoned the party. |
