Dryer, head of the GeographyDepartment, made a trip to the University ofIllinois, at Urbana, 111., Nov. 19.Miss Gertrude Heckenhauer enjoyed Thanksgiving with friends at Sullivan.Word has been received that Mr. PerryHendrick, who was forced to go home on account of illness, has entirely recovered.Mr. Leo Francis was with us Nov. 21. Mr.Francis is principal of the Bridgeton HighSchool.Miss Lena Wilson went to her home at Lafayette for Thanksgiving vacation.The Alethenai Society, the debating and literary club of the women of I. S. N., is planning to present a play, probably a comedy, atthe close of the winter term or the beginningof the spring term.Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Davisson have left TerreHaute and gone to Indianapolis. Mr. and Mrs.Davisson both were formerly students heK,Mrs. Davisson being Miss Effie White beforeher marriage. Mr. Davisson is on the Editorialstaff of the Indianapolis News.Mr. Cly Humston, 06, made a short visit andrenewed acquaintances, Dec. 4.Prof. Laubach, head of the Department ofManual Training, delivered an address onManual Training before the Terre HauteScience Club, Nov. 19.A valuable specimen of petrified wood hasbeen presented to the geography departmentby Mr. Vane Wyeth of near Terre Haute. Thespecimen was discovered in the oolitic limestone fields of Bedford, and as far as has nowbeen determined probably dates back to a timeprevious to the coal age.Professors Cox, Bruce and McBeth, of I. S.N., and Dr. Scovell, of Wiley High School,were present at the meeting of the IndianaAcademy of Science, held at Purdue University, at Lafayette, during the Thanksgivingholidays. Prof. McBeth presented a paper onThe Origin of Temperate Latitude Cyclones,before the Society. Mr. McBeth was also reelected treasurer of the Society for the tenthconsecutive term.The legislative school appropriation committee, composed of Senator Hanna and Representatives Greiger and Sicks, were visitors, Dec.1. They made an inspection tour of our entiresystem of buildings. It is this committee whichwill report as to their opinion of the need of anew science building for I. S. N. A specialappropriation of $175,000 will be asked, withwhich the buy the grounds and erect the newbuilding.Prof. Engleman of the Training School hasbeen invited to read a paper before the Classical Association of the Middle West and Southat its April meeting in New Orleans.So far we have been unable to secure a program for the meeting of the Teachers Asso- |
