Children of laborers by the day or month, .... 10 The average age of those who have attended during the past
year is twenty years. This does not differ materially from the
average of any preceding year.Ofithe 704 different-students who have attended during the
past year, 289, or 41 per cent., were males, and 415, or 59 per
cent., were females.The number who have graduated from the school since its or¬
ganization is 255 of this number, 173 are now teaching.If from the number of graduates is deducted the number of ladies who have married, and left the profession for this reason, and also the number who have died, it is found that 90 per cent, of the remainder are now engaged in teaching. Of the entire 255 graduates in the past fourteen years, 3 per cent, have died, 7 per cent, are wives and mothers, 6 per cent, are living at home with their parents, 3 per cent, have entered some other vocation, unknown 5 per cent., 76 per cent, are now teaching.We have no means of determining how many of the under¬ graduates, who number about 4,000, are now teaching in the State. The proportion is not so large as is that of graduates, for obvious reasons.Eighty-three counties in the State have had representatives in the school during the past year, ending June 12, 1885, as fol¬ lows: Allen, 3 Blackford, 2 Bartholomew, 3 Boone, 9 Benton, 12 Brown, 2 Cass, 8 Clinton, 12 Clay, 16 Clark, 6 Carroll, 4 Crawford, 1 Dearborn, 5 Dubois, 5 Decatur, 1 Daviess, 2 Delaware, 5 Dekalb, 3 Elkhart, 2 Floyd, 5 Fountain, 7 Fulton, 7 Fayette, 1 Franklin, 1 Gibson, 11 |
