He remarked of his experiences while a student
here in school and of how these memories of his
student life still linger in his mind. He made
comment of the growth of the school and its
influence since the time of his graduation. In
conclusion he suggested that the Indiana StateNormal School had perhaps a better right to
demand support of the taxpayers than any other
institution within the borders of the State be¬
cause of the influence it was manifesting toward
a higher standard of citizenship. And finally
that he hoped, and that during his four years
service on the Board of Trustees he would dohis utmost, to make the growth of the Indiana
State Normal School in the future what it has
been in the past.IN MEMORIAM.Miss Eva Rumbley of Terre Haute, Ind., died
suddenly on Saturday, February 28, 1914. She
had been a student of the Indiana State Nor¬
mal School from 1902 to 1904, after which she
taught for several years in the schools of In¬
dianapolis, and later in the Normal Training
School. Miss Rumbley graduated from the
University of Chicago in 1912, and since that
time has been an English instructor in Garfield
High School, Terre Haute.She was a conscientious student, a loyal sup¬
porter of the Normal School, and a valuable
member of the Alpha Sorority.Miss Malissa Furr, daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. W. H. Furr, died at her home, three
miles south of Cloverdale, Wednesday after¬
noon, February 18th, 1914.Miss Furr was born near Lancaster, Garrard
County, Kentucky, June 12th, 1876. She leaves
parents, two brothers, Cornelius M. and Wil¬
liam P. Furr, and a sister, Mrs. Clemma Her¬
bert.Two months ago she returned from Sheridan,
Wyoming, where she had been teaching Latin
for the past three years. She was forced to
resign her position because of ill health.The funeral services were conducted by the
Rev. Ezra Duncan of Spencer, Ind. Interment
took place at the Combes cemetery, near Quincy. |
