Description: THE NORMAL ADVANCE121LiQ:atfjiettcs
SINCE the last issue of the Advance the
standing of the Indiana State Normal
School in athletics has advanced a hundred
fold. We lost our first game, that with Illinois
Normal. The play was fast from the first start,
every man on both teams playing to his utmost. At no time during the contest wras there a
difference of more than six points between the
twyo teams, although our collegians were
forced to go through the entire 40 minutes
without once assuming the lead. Twice they
tied the count early in the game, but after that
trailed until the end. Although the play was
rough from both sides, we fared a little the
worse for the wear than the visitors. Knauth
bumped heads with one of the Suckers in the
second half, and it was thought for a minute
that he had broken his nose. He continued in
the game. With 30 seconds to play, Schenck
was jammed into one of the sharp corners of
the wall by bumping into two of the visitors
and was forced to retire. The score at the end of the first half stood
20 to 14 in favor of the Illinoisans. Then the
teachers pulled themselves together and piled
up four points before the visitors were able to
add to their total. The spurt only served tospeed the winners up, and they started a bom¬
bardment of the basket which threatened for
a minute to prove serious, but Wann and Clark
found their fighting blood and, with the as¬
sistance of Stiffler, succeeded in stopping the
rally. Score:Illinois (31) Indiana (26)Stout F Schenck, ShaferSchneider F KnauthCourtright, Cap C StifflerDeal, Briggs G WannShotwell, Benjamin... G ClarkBaskets—Schneider (5), Courtright (5),
