be arranged a short course of instruction and training.This course embraces all the subjects required by law to be
taught in the Common Schools.It also embraces a course of instruction in the theory and art
of teaching.Persons of good ability, and those who have had some suc¬
cessful experience in teaching, and who wish to make a thor¬
ough review of the branches required by law to be taught in
the schools, can complete this course in about half the time of
the full course. This course covers the first four terms of the
regular course.Those who complete this course, can, on its completion, con¬
tinue on the full course. The difference between the regular
course aud the short course, is a difference in completeness.
Each is thorough.To students who complete this course, a certificate of the fact
will be given.CONDITIONS OF ADMISSION.Students, if females, must be sixteen years of age
if males,
eighteen. They must possess good moral character and aver¬
age intellectual abilities. If residents of Indiana, they must
promise to teach, if practicable, in the common schools of the
State, a period equal to twice that spent as pupils in the Nor¬
mal School.They must pass a fair examination in Reading, Spelling,
Geography, and Arithmetic through Percentage. They must
write a legible hand, and be able to analyze and parse simple
sentences.Because of an insufficient appropriation for the incidental
expenses of the institution, the Board of Trustees have found
it necessary to assess a janitors fee of one dollar per term.
This fee will be collected at the opening of each term.
