Description: |
STATE NORMAL SCHOOL. 23The foregoing table shows the terms during which the study
of any given subject may be pursued by classes entering at the
beginning of any term in the year.It will be seen that classes entering at the opening of a Fall
term may remain out and teach during the Pall term of the
third year, return at the beginning of the next term and com¬
plete the course by the close of the year.Classes entering at the opening of the Winter term can pur¬
sue the studies in the order indicated in the table, and thus
complete the course within eight consecutive terms from the
time of entering.Classes entering at the opening of the Spring term may pur¬
sue the regular course for four terms, teach during the Fall
term, return for two terms more, teach a second Fall term, re¬
turn for the remaining two terms and graduate with a regular
class. These plans are suggested for each class as a whole, but it
will be observed that any student, entering at the beginning of
any term, who has done, satisfactorily, one or more termswork
may remain out and teach one or more terms at any time, and
returning, find a class doing the work for which he is prepared.By following this plan, energetic students can work their way
through the school. Such persons, when they have completed
the course, are not only prepared theoretically for responsible
positions, but they have had practical experience in organizing,
instructing, and managing schools. The graduate of the Normal
School, who has had successful experience in teaching, is always
in demand.CONDITIONS OF ADMISSION.Students, if females, must be sixteen years of age if males, eighteen. They must possess good moral character and average intellectual abilities. If residents of Indiana, they must promise to teach, if practicable, in the common schools of the State, a period equal to twice that spent as pupils in the Normal School. |
