Description: |
Karen Phillipss transcribed interview of John Palkovich about Martin Piniak. According to Palkovich, Piniak worked for Youngstown Sheet & Tube in 1930 when the government brought up property taxes. Piniak did not believe in property taxes because he thought a man already owned his land. Piniak quit his job so the government could not take money from his checks. Piniak used the rest of his money to live in a hotel and buy a car. When he ran out of money, Piniak went to live under a bridge in East Chicago, Indiana. |
