Description: Picture of Reliance/Defiance riverboat.
Dancing on the Wabash. The Reliance/Defiance riverboat/barge became the Reliance and Reliable excursion and dance boat in the 1920s. The barge-driven boat traveled 15 miles up river from Terre Haute, stopping at Clinton for passengers. Often 200 dancers were on board, and others in canoes and row boats tied on to the Reliance to enjoy a musical, moonlit ride.
