Nov 24th 10 am - 12 noonOpen house of OJTFACT SHEETON-THE-JOB-TRAINING PROJECT - - - URBAN LEAGUE OF SOUTH BEND1305 West Washington South Bend, Indiana 46601Using funds provided for under the Manpower Development and Training Act of 1962, the Urban League of South Bend will help employers establish On-The-Jon Training programs, for skills in short supply.WHAT IS ON-THE-JOB-TRAINING?The trainee is hired, put on the company payroll, and then receives training at a work station from a person designated as trainer by the company.OJT is one of the most effective ways of providing skilled workers for modern industry. It is one method by which we link (1) the employer who as job openings, but needs trained workers, and (2) the job seeker who as potential but lacks skill. OJT is one answer to both problems.HOW DOES THE PRGORAM OPERATE?An OJT representative will contact employers to help develop OJT Programs. He will help to identify employer’s needs and develop a training program for their approval. The employer will sign a sub-contract which sets forth these few basic facts:(1) The number of trainees.(2) What they are to be trained for.(3) The length of training schedule.(4) The rate of employer reimbursement.After the contract has been signed, the OJT staff assist in recruiting trainee applicants for the employee’s approval. HOW MUCH MONEY DOES THE COMPNAY GET FOR TRAINING COSTS?The employer may be partially reimbursed up to $25 per week, per trainee, for a period of not less than 4 weeks and not more than 26 weeks.IS THERE A MINIMUM OR MAXIMUM NUMBER OF TRAINEES?No. The employer may train one person if that is all he needs. The maximum limit is the number the employer can continue to employ after training. IS THE TRAINEE PAID?Yes. The trainee is an employee of the firm, and is paid by the company at the trainee rate for the industry and occupation involved. His production belongs to the company. WHEN IS THE EMPLOYER PAID?The employer is paid directly by the OJT Project - Urban League of South Bend at the end of the training.There are limitations. Training cannot be instituted where:-it would result in curtailment or replacement of existing company training.-there are labor disputes.-it is not approved by the union’s collective bargaining agent.
