President John F. Kennedy memorial services

Description: Shown here are memorials held in South Bend for President John F. Kennedy, assassinated on November 22, 1963. A memorial service was conducted at the courthouse by the St. Joseph County Veterans Command Council, attended by Army Reserve troops and the Central High School Band, along with the color guard of Bendix Aviation Post 284. Veterans organizations from South Bend, Mishawaka, Osceola, North Liberty, Lakeville, Walkerton, New Carlisle, and Lydick were represented. A wreath was placed at the Soldiers and Sailors courthouse monument by Mishawaka mayor Joseph M. Canfield; South Bend mayor-elect Lloyd M. Allen; Commanders Council commander August F. Karacson; and South Bend mayor Frank J. Bruggner. The First Presbyterian Churchs memorial service is depicted, as is a memorial held at the Stepan Center at Notre Dame, led by Father Edmund Joyce, C.S.C.
