Typed document informing readers what criteria are used to judge drag shows at the Seahorse II Cabaret. No date given, presumed to be from the 1990s. The Sea Horse II was an LGBTQ bar and performance venue on South Bend, Indianas west side. What we are looking forMany questions have been asked over the years, but one the questions asked repeatedly is “just what are you looking for?” In a brief description, I will tell you what the judges are told to look for. They are looking for well-rounded contestants who love good taste in clothing, what they wear and how they wear it, for competition. Evening wear will be watched closely for proper length, proper fit, proper accessories and modeling, complete with a flattering hairstyle and matching shoes. Wigs, if worn, should be clean, not frizzy {unless intentionally styled in that manor} and pinned securely, with no hairpins, wigcaps, or hairline showing. Possible points for evening wear will be 40 per judge.Sport-day Wear will be judge based on how stylish and realistic the fashion is. Mirrored by images of today’s man and woman. The judges will be instructed to look for clothing that is NOT formal or casual, but could be work to a social event, such as a business luncheon or benefit. Total points possible for this category is 35 per judge. Talent competition, the judges will be asked to watch for mistakes, especially in lip sync, costume in relation to your presentation, and the correct use of props {if used} and backup dancers/actors {if used}. If props are used, you will be judged on showmanship. The most important “sub-category” of the talent is entertainment value. Ask your self – is my talent presentation entertaining? Does it stir one of the emotions {sadness, laughter, excitement, ect.}? You must be able to capture the judges attention. The highest possible score in that category is 60 per judge.Question and answer {Saturday only} the judge will be looking for a short, concise answer, that again stirs one’s emotions. Personality and being quick on your feet with an answer are among the “sub-categories” that will be weighed in this segment. 15 Points are possible per judge. Our judges are looking for a talented man or woman, who have the ability to communicate, both in the fashion and entertainment world. If you fit this pattern in what you have chosen for your presentation throughout the contest, you will score well. |
