Description: |
One paged, typed photocopy of a petition circulated by South Bend Equality encouraging people to support the upcoming vote in the South Bend Common Council on Bill 30‐10 extending protections against employment discrimination to LGBTQ peoples. This is similar to a petition circulated for the 2006 effort, and in one place, the words Bill 29‐06 (referring to the 2006 effort) were used instead of Bill 30‐10. Please Schedule Bill 30-10 for a vote in 10/10!I am signing this petition to encourage the South Bend Common Council to schedule a vote on Bill 3-10 in October, 2010. I support this amendment to the Human Rights Ordinance, which would allow persons who believe they have been discriminated against to turn to the Human Rights Commission for assistance. Please listen to the Human Rights Commission, who has asked the Common Council to support Bill 30-10. The Human Rights Commission has received reports of discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation/gender identity and wants to investigate such cases. Please pass Bill 29-06 to allow individuals to have a remedy for this type of employment discrimination. I believe that people should be judged on the basis of their work performance, and not the basis of irrelevant personal factors like religion, race, sex, gender identity, or sexual orientation. Note: I understand that churches and religious organizations are exempt from this legislation if their beliefs conflict with it.Signature__________Please print:Name __________Address __________City South Bend or _____________ I work in South Bend___ I do business in South Bend. Please check here, if this statement applies to you:___ I thought that it was already illegal to discriminate against a person on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. |
