Other Side of the Storm Quilt

Description: Other Side of the Storm Quilt made by Willodean Yoder.The Other Side of the Storm was designed, pieced and hand-quilted by Nappanee quilter, Willodean Yoder. It commemorates the recovery efforts after a devastating tornado ripped through the Nappanee are on October 18, 2007 and honors those who lent a helping hand during the days and weeks after the storm.The major focal point of the colorful quilt is the signatures of approximately one thousand people who attended a recovery dinner/celebration on October 18, 2008. Names include victims, volunteers, and Nappanee community leaders.Almost one thousand hours were spent on the quilt over a nine-month period. Mrs. Yoder has donated the quilt to the city of Nappanee and the local community as a reminder of the caring and sharing of thousands of people who gave physically, financially, and spiritually to the victims of the Tornado. --Martha WeirichQuilt features bright colors to symbolize happy things, a cross in the center to thank to god no lives were lost, Tornados, a wreath to symbolize the circle of friends and family, Subonnet Sue and Sam represents the individuals of Nappanee, the hands represent the volunteers who helped, the hearts represent the community and outsiders, the small pieces of fabric with names on them are suppose to represent the tornado debris and the fans with rainbow colors represent the recovery from the storm along with the stars which further demonstrate that it is no longer stormy.
