Leather Flight Jacket

Description: Leather Flight Jacket from World War II worn by Floyd Gwin. Floyd Gwin was born in October of 1918.In 1940 he went to Illinois for engine training.In March of 1942 he was stationed in Broome, Australia helping to evacuate troops.One day 2 planes left Broome. 1 with officers went to Melbourne and 1 went to Perth carrying enlisted men. The Liberator with the enlisted men went down. Floyd Gwin was not on the flight that day when the plane went down because he was on KP duty.Item belonging to Gwin were stolen, including his leather flight jacket. He was left with tennis shoes and wool overalls.When he finally caught up with the rest of his unit (in Perth?), he saw someone using a toiletry kit that Gwin said, looked just like mine.He followed this someone into the Quonset hut. He confronted him because he had seen Gwin written on the collar of the jacket the man was wearing. The man was a Tech. Sgt.The sergeant said to him --I thought you were on the Liberator that went down.Gwin got his belongings back. His jacket has traveled all over the world.Mr. Gwins career in the Air Force lasted from 1940-1963
