1898 WCTU Quilt

Description: 1898 WCTU Quilt On February 11, 1898, it was decided by the members of Nappanees Womens Christian Temperance Union that a piece quilt would be made to benefit the organization. Minutes from a meeting held near the end of the year indicate that members worked on the quilt through late spring and displayed it during the towns Chrysanthemum Fair at Kellers Bicycle Shop November 18th and 19th, where an admission of 5 cents was charged. The secretary writes, Bids to be given to the Doorkeeper. Served suppers for two evenings. Price for the first evening to be 15 cents. Second evening 10 cents -- They cleared $19.00 The quilt was apparently sold Saturday evening, November 22nd, for $32.14.
