Old Monon Depot and M. Ziers Boiler and Sheet Iron Works, New Albany, Ind., ca. 1900

Description: Mounted photograph of two attached brick buildings. To the left is a one-story structure with the address 125. Underneath is written The Old Monon Depot. To the right is a two-story brick building with a cupola. Painted on the side is M Zier and Co. Boiler and Sheet Iron Works / Office / 127. Handwritten beneath this building is M. Ziers Boiler Works.Railroad Depots of Southern Indiana, by David E. Longest states: New Albany & Salem Railroad (NA&S), which later became the Monon, used at least five different buildings in New Albany over the years to meet its needs for freight houses and passenger depots. The NA&Ss earliest structure was the combination passenger depot and freight house located at 125 East Oak Street, built for $18,000. It was used by the Monon until 1891. This photograph, taken after 1895, shows that M. Zier and Company moved into the old depot after the NA&S built a freight house on Sycamore Street and a passenger depot on Vincennes Street.
