Description: |
The two-story frame Greek Revival farmhouse located north of Gilead in section 4, Perry Township, Miami County. The lender states that construction of the house began before the Civil War and was completed after. As of 2020 the house remains and this farm is still owned by Gaerte descendants.Levi Gaerte (1822-1894) and his wife Anna Rickabaugh (1824-1882) were married in Wayne County, Ohio and moved to Miami County by 1853. Online family trees indicate that they had eight children; Mary died in 1860 before this photograph was taken. The surviving children pose here with their parents. They are (in order of age): Sarah Jane (1853-1903, later Harman); Jacob W. (1855-1907), Harriet A. (1858-1898, later Snearly), Henry F. (1859-1902), John A. (1861-1932), Emma Minerva (1863-1881), Edwin Robert (1867-1953). We estimate the date as 1872 based on Edwins age. The parents and some of the children are buried in the Gaerte Cemetery located on this farm. |
