Buick Automobiles at Ridges Auto Garage, Sheridan, Indiana, circa 1908

Description: Early Buick owners pose with their cars. The caption reads Ridges Auto Garage / Home of the Buick / J. W. Ridge, Prop. / Phone 58 / Sheridan, Ind. To the left is the Stein store selling poultry, butter, eggs, and junk. Postmarked Aug. 1908. This view looks north on South Main Street toward the intersection of 2nd Street (West State Rd. 38). The brick buildings to the left still stand as of 2017 and and one on the corner is the Thistlethwait Block (200 South Main Street). In the 1909 Sanborn map the Opera House was located on the 2nd floor.According to newspapers, in 1913 John W. Ridge (1872-1947) operated the first bus lines between Sheridan and Noblesville and later Noblesville and Indianapolis. By 1930 he lived in Arcadia where he manufactured Ridges Red Quill Rat Exterminator poison.
