Description: |
A sign on the damaged bridge reads L. Pork & Beef Packers, Reliable Brand.According to the Indianapolis Star, 23 March 1952, on March 26, 1913 the levee on the west bank of White River gave way during the Flood of 1913 and the river swept away a private bridge belonging to Kingan & Co., as well as the Washington Street bridge and two other railroad bridges. The Engineering Record, 1913, v. 69, no. 17, p. 874 stated that Kingans bridge just below Washington Street was entirely destroyed. It was previously the Big Four R. R. bridge and later used as a cattle bridge connecting the Kingan and Company plants on both banks of White River. |
