Description: Postmarked January 5, 1911. Captioned Thompson Green and Amber Botle House, Factory No. 1, Gas City, Ind.The Thompson Bottle and Glass Company survived the end of the areas gass boom and was purchased by the Illinois Glass Company (later Owens-Illinois Gas Company) in 1913. The National Glass Budget magazine reported in March 1914 that 72 Thompson Bottle Factory glass blowers in Gas City, along with 150 helpers, were to be laid off and replaced by automatic bottle blowing machines. The factory made milk, prescription, liquor, and many other bottles and products until it closed in the 1980s.
