Description: |
Postcard touting the more than 500 guns and war relics on display at the Virginia Grill in Indianapolis, all from the collection of owner Paul Vavul who, along with his wife Mary (Kargakes) Vavul operated the restaurant for more than thirty years, closing in 1972. At the time, Vavuls collection was thought to be the largest private collection of guns in the state. In the 1960s, the restaurant made headlines when African-American customers filed complaints with the city over Vavuls Negro Room at the restaurant, a separate dining room from the white customers. |
