Young women in coats and hats hold signs reading We want a New School Board! and We Want Justice. A lengthy note on the back dated February 19, 1925 states that students at Jefferson High School went on strike when coach and teacher Frederick J. Fritz Grosshans was asked to resign. For several days the majority of students skipped school, held meetings, and marched with signs asking for the reinstatement of Grosshans and the resignation of principal and board. Students went from school to Y. M. C. A. for a meeting, then to the courthouse steps to give a few yells. Next they held a meeting at the ball park and did a few yells. On Friday the gang went to ball park and had their pictures taken. The parents held a meeting. The students were still out of school of Monday and held a meeting at the Mars Theatre. Mothers held a meeting in the school auditorium. On Tuesday, February 24 the students held a meeting at the Mars again and went back to school in the afternoon. It was not settled but A. E. Kemmer [?] promised us that it would be all ok inside of a few weeks. Raws! for Jeff. |
