Large blankets are in the window on the left, and mens clothing on the right. An implement store is on the far left. Pierceton, Ind. is handwritten on the back.Based on other Pierceton photographs found online, this is the McNamara Store (later known as McNamara and Sons), located in a brick building at 128 North First Street. Owner William McNamara (standing 2nd from the left) later operated the store with his sons Arthur and Ross McNamara. The general store was located at this site from the 1890s until about 1905-1910. This photograph pre-dates September 1895 since the plate-glass windows reflect the wood frame commercial buildings across the street that burned to the ground in a downtown fire in September 1895. |
