Houses and Pfau Poultry House on East 9th and Mill Streets, Jasper, Indiana, circa 1915

Description: Written on the back of the photo: This photo shows the [northwest] corner of 9th and Mill Streets in Jasper. The home on the left was the first residence for the A. W. Flick family. A. W. rented the house from his father-in-law, Henry Pfau. The commercial building shown at center is the Henry Pfau Poultry House, which is no longer standing. The house historically had the address 304 East 9th Street and as of 2017 is numbered 216 East 9th Street. As of 2017, the house in the distance is numbered 902 Mill Street. Frances Helen Pfau, wife of August William Flick, was the daughter of Henry Pfau (1854-1927), proprietor of the poultry House. Pfau married Flick in 1906.From The Herald (Dubois County), Looking Back, November 9, 2012: In the center of the photograph is the Pfau Poultry House, a business founded by Henry Pfau in 1891 at Ninth and Mill streets in Jasper. The two-story, brick building was erected in 1895 and enlarged in 1906. This photo was taken circa 1915. The firm purchased poultry and egg products from local farmers and sold them to local townsfolk. The 1 1/2-story home on the right, built in 1885, was the residence of Henry and his wife, Mary (Biggeleben) and their eight children. The two-story house on the left, constructed in 1895, served originally as the home of Henrys widowed mother-in-law and later was the first home for Henrys daughter Helen, her husband, August Flick, and their children.
