German natives Phillip Mattheus Fiess (1861-1933) and Frederick W. Herman (b. 1866) were butchers who operated this meat market at 27 N. 4th St. between 1892 and at least 1898. The two-story brick store was located near the southeast corner of Cherry and North 4th Streets. By comparison to their portraits in Terre Haute newspapers, it appears that Fiess is on the left and Herman is 3rd from the left. A man seated next to a dog drives a horse-drawn Fiess and Herman delivery wagon. |
