Birds-eye view northwest from the Marion County Courthouse, Indianapolis, Indiana, 1876

Description: Visible in this view taken from the clock tower of the Marion County Courthouse (under construction at this time) are the Indianapolis City Market, known at the time as the hay market or the East Market; Warman Livery Stable; the Hammond Block, Roberts Park Methodist Church; Christian Chapel; Roosevelt House; the back of the Denison Hotel; First Presbyterian Church; and First Baptist Church. Streets include North Delaware Street, East Market Street, and Wabash Street.The stereoview has a backlist for stereoscopic views of Indianapolis and vicinity photographed by J. W. Pendergast of 212 East Washington Street, known to be making stereographs from that studio circa 1876-1878. The first 12 views are birds eye views of the City, taken from the new Court House steeple. Underlined is 1. North Side - Looking North-West.The Indianapolis News reported on June 24, 1876, p. 4 that Mr. J. W. Pendergast, the photographer, whose parlors are located at No. 212 East Washington street, has taken some fine stereoscopic views from the court house tower.
