Railroad tracks along Penn Street, Henryville, Indiana, circa 1912

Description: View looking north at the buildings east of Penn Street. Horse-drawn wagons are parked in front of houses and stores. Postcard is incorrectly titled Main St. Henryville, Ind. Postmarked January 10, 1912.Photograph circa 1880 looking north on Penn Street in Henryville, Indiana. Pennsylvania Railroad track runs parallel to the road. The train depot is to the right of the tracks where the person is standing on the tracks. This is on the north side of what is County Road 160. House on the far right is the Casey house. The two-story brick is the general store that is now IGA. A tornado knocked down the second floor in 1948. It is now a one-story building and has been added on to. The Bollinger Building is third building from store and mostly behind trees. It is still there. On the left behind the rick of wood is the Hotel (torn down in 2017). The Hotel sign is hanging in the tree. Based on company signs in another picture in this series this photograph dates to around 1880. Note there is no track crossing where Main Street joins Penn Street today. It is unclear why this photograph is labeled Main Street. What is Main Street and Penn Street were originally Salem-Charlestown Road which was the main road that cut through this area. There is no name on this piece of road in old maps so it may have been considered an extension of Main Street. Text on picture: Main St. Henryville, Ind. Text under picture: A view standing down below what is now known as Adams IGA Store looking north up Pennsylvania Street. I dont know why they changed the names of the streets or when.
